If Don’t Mess with Texas was a walking woman
Her name…
Representative Jasmine Crockett
She stands at 5 foot nothing and maybe 110lbs on a good day.
But this Mighty Mouse has been cleaning house ever since she was voted to the
United States Congress (2021). She holds no punches and shoots from the hip by
saying what everyone else is thinking. She makes those soulless, ruthless, moneygrabbers
who’ve been lifetime seated in Congress accountable for their actions or
inactions. She’s probably most notably known for her alliteration verbal beat
down of Representative Marjorie Taylor Green when she called her a “bleach-blonde-bad-built-butch-body”
during a House committee meeting last year.
We take the mantra “Don’t Mess with Texas” serious around
these parts. She is living proof; you don’t want to wrangle with an angry
rattler. Because she represents Texas, I think about the Black women pioneers of
the Wild West who took no mess. Women like Mary Field (Stagecoach Mary), Susie
Summer Revels Cayton, Abby Fisher, and Bridget “Biddy” Mason. These women emigrated
from the South to the West and contributed to the advancement of the West from
creating schools, starting business, established towns, and took on dangerous
jobs. Susie Revels was the daughter of the first elected African American to
the U.S. Senate. Stagecoach Mary was a postal carrier who would carry two guns
to ward off potential robbers. She was known as a quick shooter with a bad
attitude. The list could go on about these trailblazers.
Although many of these women were pistol packing women,
Crockett follows in their badass legacy. She may not be packing a pistol, but
she’s certainly packing a rapid-fire tongue. The bite-size politician came with
an education in law from the University of Houston Law Center. She lets her
rhetoric fight the battles of all that is democracy and righteous for the American
people. Perhaps she gets her rhetorical language from her father who is a
teacher and a preacher in St. Louis. And just like Stagecoach Mary, her mother,
Gwen is a former postal worker. Hopefully, she didn’t go postal on anybody.
Apparently, her outspokenness has positioned her to be the
spokesperson for Democratic Congress as she’s the only one placed in front of a
mic. In the words of James Brown, this is a man’s world, but it would be
nothing without a woman or a girl. Unfortunately, a patriarchal society
leads the way in tearing up the world and making Earth a ghetto with a
presidential “thug” as Crockett titled Donald Trump, depleting the United
States. It is then a woman’s responsibility to right-side-up the wrongs of male
leadership who put their own self-centeredness of greed, vanity, narcissism,
and all the other deadly sins before the people who voted for them. This is not to say a woman won’t do the same,
but THIS woman is leading with ethical values and morality.
Crockett comes from a familial legacy of a commitment to
service, so it’s no doubt she allows her fearless rhetoric to craft a path that
involves serving the people of Texas and the United States. BANG! BANG!
